Grammar Refresher
Grammar is rhetorical and contextual; what word or phrase “works” or what is “right” in one situation may not be correct or even appropriate in another. This workshop not only offers a refresher on both common and advanced grammar and punctuation struggles, but also provides workplace writers a more nuanced and complex understanding of language choices and how they can most effectively make sentence-level decisions to best communicate in the workplace. This workshop will benefit any workplace writer who could use a refresher on grammar and punctuation, as well as those interested in the nuances of language use.
Outcomes
In this workshop, participants will learn:
The ways that grammar is both contextual and rhetorical
That writers need to consider their situation with nuance in order to be grammatically “correct”
When to “break” grammar rules
To recognize common and more advanced grammar and punctuation issues
To make informed, appropriate choices about sentence-level issues, such as passive vs. active voice, point of view, and other language issues
Spot and “fix” errors in all types of documents that cross their desk
Standard workshops are typically limited to 12 participants to ensure active engagement and individual feedback. If you have a larger group, please get in touch to talk about your options.
